Rare.Monitor analysed the UK ophthalmology clinic base in March 2025. 85% of clinics are part of a chain. 66% sit inside large chains of nine or more sites, 19% sit in smaller chains, and 15% operate as independents. Optical Express, Optegra, NewMedica and SpaMedica are the largest national chains by clinic count.
