Will the Future of Aesthetics Turn Away from Injectable Treatments?

It may read as a challenging blog title and one which could divide opinions. Semantic aside,  it’s a justified question when we look at the numbers from our latest consumer tracker.

In the 12 months up until November 2023 the levels of interest in Dermal Filler (-31%) and Botulinum Toxin (-16%) decreased significantly amongst UK consumers. This decline is at a point in time when other injectable treatments such as Skin Boosters performed well, indicating that this could be a change in market preference. Should practitioners and manufacturers of facial injectables be concerned, or is this just a passing phase?

Medical Aesthetics is notorious for being one of the most dynamic markets within the UK health, beauty, and wellness sectors. As such we are used to seeing significant changes in consumer and market behaviour, so it can be difficult to predict.

The answer may reside with how consumers view their future behaviours. When we look at consumers' future intention, then the case for a broader treatment offering within an Aesthetic clinic becomes more apparent.

Data from our Aesthetics tracker survey indicates that in the next 12 months consumers are more interested in having Laser Hair Removal,  Medicated Weight Management, Vitamin Injections and Body Contouring. At the same time, they are less interested in treatments such as Botulinum Toxin and Dermal Filler than they were 12 months ago.

The results from this study are taken from our latest report Beyond Injectables: How the Aesthetics Market is embracing Wellness and Longevity, which you can download here.

The findings will be alarming for manufacturers and practitioners alike, and emphasises the need to focus on product innovation, value proposition and messaging. As we know the market is heavily influenced by fashion and trends, and therefore means that we may see improvements in the coming months and years.
