Laser Hair removal is now more popular than Botulinum Toxin.

The latest data from our consumer tracker shows that for the first time since since 2020, laser hair removal is now the most popular treatment in UK Aesthetics, overtaking Botulinum Toxin and Dermal Fillers. Around 5.6 million people in the UK are now considering laser hair removal treatment  in the next 12 months.

There could be many reasons driving this. One the one hand both Botulinum Toxin and Dermal Fillers have seen a 16% and 31% reduction respectively in consumer interest in the last 12 months. This creates space for other options to move up the leaderboard, (this was covered in our report Beyond Injectables, How UK Aesthetics Is Embracing Medical Wellness, which you can download here).

That said there are plenty of reasons why this might be the case, there are now many brands in the at-home IPL market which have helped bring the cost of entry down. It has been reported in recent years that male aesthetics is a growing area, and there are now more device manufacturers in the market supporting clinics to help generate demand with advertising and content.

It seems that providers are capitalizing on this large demand, with 38% of all UK Aesthetics providers offering laser hair removal and IPL. Despite now being the most popular treatment demanded by consumers, it is the 4th most popular treatment offered by providers, showing there to be space in the market for the right proposition. However that’s not to say its for all clinics; earlier this year Elan Laser clinics went into administration, citing lower than expected demand and large set up & operational costs putting a significant strain on cashflow.

As for the consumers themselves we know that Laser Hair Removal has a wide audience appeal with the core of the audience earning between £20,000-£60,000 a year, and being prepared to spend between £100-£300 on treatment in a year.

There is plenty more to learn about the topic, and the brief summary in this blog shows there is room for the market to grow. The data reported in this blog was presented at ACE conference on behalf of our clients Alma Lasers, and is taken from our Rare Consumer Tracker and Rare Monitor data products.
