Exploring the Future of Aesthetics: A Conversation with Claire Reach, Founder of MapHealth

In a recent interview with Claire Reach, Founder of MapHealth, we delved into the evolving landscape of aesthetics and the growing trend towards holistic wellness within the industry.

Q: What's the significance of the 34% of aesthetics practices offering medical wellness treatments?

A: The 34% figure is really exciting, it reflects a pivotal shift in how practitioners approach patient care. It signals a departure from traditional aesthetics towards a more comprehensive approach centred around enhancing overall health and well-being. Iā€™m hearing a lot that patients are seeking more than just superficial treatments; they desire holistic solutions that address both their aesthetic concerns and their broader health goals.

Q: Why are traditional aesthetic treatments like dermal fillers and botulinum toxin declining while interest in non-facial injectables is increasing?

A: We're witnessing a profound cultural shift towards prioritising wellness and longevity over traditional medical aesthetics. Patients are increasingly drawn to treatments that offer long-term benefits beyond cosmetic enhancements. This trend underscores the growing awareness among both practitioners and patients about the interconnectedness of medical aesthetics and overall health.

Q: What challenges do practices offering medical wellness treatments face?

A: One of the primary challenges lies in striking a balance between profitability and value-based care. While there's a growing demand for medical wellness treatments, clinics must navigate the complexities of ensuring financial viability while delivering high quality care. It requires a strategic approach to integrating these treatments into existing practice models without compromising on patient outcomes.

Q: How do you envision the future trajectory of the aesthetics market, considering the rise of medical wellness treatments and the decline of traditional aesthetic procedures?

A: The future of the aesthetics market is poised for a remarkable transformation. With the increasing emphasis on holistic wellness and longevity, I think we can anticipate a continued shift towards personalised care. This evolution will combine medical aesthetics and preventive medicine, with practitioners playing a more proactive role in supporting patients' overall health journeys. As innovations in technology and treatment continue to emerge, I envision a landscape where aesthetics seamlessly intersect with medical wellness, empowering individuals to not only look their best but also live their healthiest lives.

Q: We found that Aesthetics clinics that are offering Medical Wellness and Longevity treatment are offering a real range of treatments. Are there any surprising findings for you?

A:  I'm actually really pleased to see the number of Aesthetics clinics offering functional medicine assessments is so high (51%). The broad range of other treatments makes sense in the pursuit of personalised medicine.  From functional medicine assessments to stress management programs, clinics are expanding their offerings to meet the evolving needs of their patients. Surprisingly, nutritional counselling remains relatively low (7%), highlighting a potential area for growth and further exploration within the medical wellness landscape.
