Profiling the UK Private Dental Market.

We are delighted to share with you our latest stats research report for the UK private dental market. Launched this month (April 2024) the report provides a snapshot on some of the latest trends and insights from providers within the UK.

You can download the report from here.

UK dentistry is often in the news as a growing number of practices are moving from NHS contracts to only accepting private patients. Accessing affordable dentistry has become a real problem for many in the UK, as evidenced by the number of people queuing to register for a recently opened NHS practice in Bristol. With this change comes a significant realignment in the treatments that many UK dental practices are offering, which is in part outlined in our research report.

Highlights from our data:

80% of UK Dental Providers offer Private Treatment

Our data indicates that patients will be hard pressed to find providers that offer NHS services with 4 in5 clinics now offering private treatments. Less than half the UK now access NHS services according to research from the NHS.

86% of UK Private Providers are Single Location Operators

Despite the recent spate of M&A activity in the Private Dental market with companies such as Portman and Dentex joining forces, the majority are single site operators.

97% of Scottish clinics offer private treatment, the highest in the UK

Industry experts have highlighted that many NHS practitioners in Scotland are moving to private practice, and our research backs up this trend.

50% of Private Dental Providers offer Botulinum Toxin

Half of all UK private dentists now offer Aesthetics treatments, showing how far the private dental market has evolved. Given their clinical expertise some would argue that this is a safer route for patients to get such treatments.

21% of the UK Private Dental market is owned by 5 Providers.

Over time we will be able to track market consolidation, and for the moment its notable that a fifth of the market is owned by just 5 providers, indicating that there are many providers with a sizable share of the market.
